After the Chicago Fire of 1871, the city's politicians and business community banded together with the assistance of visionary architects and planners to rebuilt the urban core. Learn how technological advances like steel construction permitted skyscrapers to be built. Careful planning of the city's center led to the architecturally rich environment so widely celebrated today.
